What we believe

Christ is our crucified and risen Savior the very Son of God, He is the Creator and Sustainer of all things!
Tenets of Our Faith

Grace Alone: Salvation is the free gift of God. Compelled by His love for us, God sent His only begotten Son to save us. Jesus accomplished this salvation when He, as our perfect substitute, suffered death on the cross for our offenses and was raised again to declare us righteous. He takes away our sin and freely gives to us His righteousness.

Faith Alone: We cannot earn this free gift or become more deserving of it by our good works. Whosoever trusts in Christ alone for salvation has eternal life.

Scripture Alone:Holy Scripture is the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God. The Bible is the ruling norm, standard, and guide for all doctrine and practice and all matters of faith and life.

The Holy Trinity

In accordance with the Holy Scriptures and the ancient catholic creeds we confess the Holy Trinity, one God in three persons. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are the three persons of the One True God.

God the Father: The First Person in the Triune Godhead, He is the creator and sustainer of all things seen and unseen. The Alpha and Omega, our beginning and our end.

God the Son: Jesus is the eternal Son of God, the Second Person of the Triune Godhead, who in the fulness of time became man to redeem us. He lived a perfect life for us sinners and died the death that we deserve. He is the Savior of the world because His death by crucifixion paid for all of our sins and His resurrection provides for all who trust in Him with newness of life, His life that never ends.

God the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is the Third Person of the Triune Godhead, who with the Father and the Son is the one true eternal God. The Holy Spirit is the author of Holy Scripture and the fellow advocate with Jesus on behalf of mankind. He takes what belongs to Jesus and His Gospel Word and gives it to us. He calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian church on earth and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith.

Mankind’s Plight

Man: All people are by nature sinful from the time they are conceived. We sin against God by thought, word and deed. We are in desperate need of a Savior.

Good Deeds: God doesn’t need our good works, but our neighbor does. While our good works show evidence of our faith, they are foremost expressions of love to others and so are a fitting response to the love that God has poured out upon us. Though we are called to follow our Lord’s commands of serving God with all our heart, all our minds and all our soul and serving our neighbor as ourselves, it is not our good deeds that save us, we on our own merit cannot accomplish salvation (eternal life). Salvation is a gift of our merciful God who forgives the sins of those who repent and believe in the saving grace offered through His Son Jesus.

God’s Gifts

The Church: The one, holy, catholic (universal), and apostolic Church is the Body of Christ, the sheep gathered around their Shepherd, listening to His voice. The Church was formed by the Holy Spirit working through the apostles.  The church exists where God’s true word is preached, where water and the Word of Christ is used for Holy Baptism, where sins are absolved through the good news of the Gospel, and the Sacrament of the Body and Blood of Jesus administered.

Justification (forgiveness): Through faith in Jesus, God has declared us to be righteous and innocent of all sin on account of Jesus’s work on earth. Through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, all of our sin is imputed to Him the crucified, and all of His righteousness (cleanness) is imputed to us.

Baptism: Water applied in the name of the Triune God and by the authority Christ has given His Church. It is a gracious work and gift from God whereby He washes us clean of all our sins. That is, through the Sacrament of Baptism God applies the saving merit of Jesus to us personally. When facing doubt of our salvation we can confidently remember our Baptism where God has marked us as one of His own, adopted us as His own dear child, and put His own Name on us.

Lord's Supper: In, with and under the forms of bread and wine, we miraculously receive the very body and blood of Christ and are joined to Him. As the Word of Jesus teaches, this Sacrament is given to us for forgiveness of sins and for eternal life, and thus strengthens the faith of those who in true faith receive it.

Communion Practice: Those who commune at Prince of Peace are baptized Christians who agree with the confessions of the Lutheran Church.  They are faithful believers in the Holy Trinity and that Jesus’ true presence is received in the consumption of the bread and wine offered during Holy Communion. We believe that this special meal is a means of grace by which or loving Lord forgives sin and strengthens faith.
